Lesa's handspun yarns and rovings/batts are completely processed from the fiber grown on our farm by our alpacas. Lesa shears all the alpacas each spring and then the fleeces are prepared as follows in our fiber studio:
- Raw fleece is carefully skirted to remove any debris
- Fleece is washed and then set out to dry
- Washed fiber is picked to open (fluff) up the fiber
- Fiber is run through carding machine to align fiber producing roving
- Roving is handspun on spinning wheel to 2 ply yarn
- Yarn is washed to set twist and then hung to dry
- Additional color added to yarn in dye pot on stove (dyed yarns)
Skeins wound into center pull balls upon request.
